How Many Grafts Do You Need?

The number follows your pattern. Receding temples (Norwood III) usually take 2,500–3,000 grafts; most full sessions at our Tampa clinic are 4,000–4,500; our largest single session so far is 5,500. Pick your stage below to see the typical count and what it costs at both rates: $2.50 per graft regular, $1.50 per graft on the current special for large sessions.

This is an estimate by stage, not a quote. Your exact count, and with it your exact price, is measured at the free consultation and given to you in writing.

Your Estimate, by Norwood Stage

Find the picture that looks most like you, then tap its stage on the scale. The numbers are the typical plans at our clinic, with the price at our two rates.

For receding temples we usually plan 2,500 to 3,000 grafts: $4,000 to $4,500 on the current special, $6,250 to $7,500 at the regular rate. The number, and the price, rise with each stage. Our largest single session so far, 5,500 grafts, is $8,250 on the special.

Typical plans at the clinic, not a rule: donor density, hair caliber and your goals move the number. Every price here is published, and you get your count, your price and what it includes in writing at the consultation.

How the Estimate Works

Three things decide the count. The scale above uses the first; the other two are measured on you at the consultation.

Your pattern

The Norwood stage describes how much area needs hair: temples only, the front, or front and crown together. The larger the area, the higher the count.

Your donor area

The hair at the back and sides is where every graft comes from. Its capacity sets the ceiling for a single session, and we examine it before any number is written down.

The density you agree on

How full the hairline, the front and the crown should look is decided with you at the consultation, and that target moves the count up or down.

The exact count and the exact price are given to you in writing at the free consultation. Nothing on this page replaces that number.

Up to Five Years at Your Side

We do not do the transplant and wave goodbye. The price includes a follow-up program of up to five years: the same team follows your growth, adjusts what needs adjusting and answers the phone, from the first wash to the settled result.

Treatment room at Hair Transplant Design in Tampa where follow-up visits take place
  • Scheduled check-ins. We look at your scalp at each stage of growth, not only in the first weeks.
  • Photo tracking. The same angles, the same light, so progress is measured instead of guessed.
  • The rest of your hair. We watch the hair around the transplant too, and tell you what we see, even when the answer is that it needs nothing.
  • A number that answers. Any concern, at any point in the program, gets a real reply from the clinic.

The program is part of every transplant, whatever your graft count turns out to be.

Graft Questions, Answered

How much does each graft cost?

Our regular rate is $2.50 per graft. Large sessions currently run on a limited-time special of $1.50 per graft. In practice, a 1,000-graft session is $2,500 and our minimum for larger sessions is $4,000. Every price is published; the full table is on the cost page.

How many grafts is a full session?

Most full sessions at our clinic are 4,000 to 4,500 grafts: $10,000 to $11,250 at the regular rate, $6,000 to $6,750 on the special. Our largest single session so far is 5,500 grafts.

How many grafts does the average hair transplant use?

The ISHRS 2025 Practice Census reports an average of 2,262 grafts per FUE case among its members, about half of the 4,000 to 4,500-graft sessions we do most. Averages are a reference of scale, not your number: yours is measured at the free consultation and given in writing.
